[01]What Is a Good 100m Time?

What counts as a good 100m, by level

Middle school and developing high school

A new sprinter breaking into the low 13s as a boy or mid 14s as a girl is doing fine, and dropping toward the 12s over a season or two is real progress. At this stage, good means improving, not hitting a national number. Most of the gains here come from a cleaner start and drive phase, not raw fitness.

High school varsity

This is where good gets concrete. Around 11.2 for boys and 12.8 for girls is a solid varsity mark that scores at most meets. Breaking 11.0 or 12.5 puts you in the conversation at sectionals and states. The jump from JV to varsity is usually a better max-velocity phase, not just trying harder.

College and elite

College sprinters live in the 10s for men and around 11.5 to 12.0 for women, with conference scoring demanding more. Elite is sub-10 for men and around 11.1 for women, a level reached by a tiny fraction of athletes. Each tenth here is bought with years of technical work.

A time tells you where you are, not why. Film a 100 from the side, the AI grades your start, drive phase, and top-end mechanics against the standard, and shows you which phase is holding your time back. That is the difference between knowing your number and lowering it.
