[01]Average College 100m Time by Division

The three numbers, kept separate

Roster average is the one nobody publishes

No governing body reports it, so any roster figure is an estimate built from team performance lists. A D1 sprint group usually spans from a national qualifier down to a walk-on who is still under 11.5. The average lands well behind the fastest athlete on the squad, which is exactly why the recruiting number and the roster number differ. The high school marks those rosters recruit from are in the high school boys' 100m ranges.

Conference scoring is a moving bar

Scoring at a power conference meet is a different task from scoring in a small D3 conference, and both are called scoring at conference. It moves with the league's depth and with who happens to be healthy in May. Treat it as the middle number between roster average and the national standard. For a level-by-level orientation outside college, use the 100m benchmarks by age.

The national bar is the one you can look up

NCAA D2 published a 2025 provisional mark of 10.47 for men and 11.76 for women. NAIA set 10.42 and 11.85 as its 2025-26 B standards. NJCAA DI used 10.48 and 11.92 in 2025. These get recalculated annually, so always cite the year with the mark. Throwers meet a different kind of division-level change, described in college shot put weight.

Published standards are exact and dated. Roster ranges are estimates from team performance lists and are labeled as such, because no division publishes a roster average.

Average College 100m Time by Division FAQ

Common questions athletes and coaches ask about this topic.

What is the average D1 100m time?
Roughly 10.5 to 11.4 for men and 11.7 to 12.7 for women across a full roster. That is a different question from qualifying: in 2025 the first-round cut sat near 10.28 for men and 11.40 for women.
Is D2 or NAIA faster in the 100m?
They overlap heavily. NCAA D2's 2025 provisional was 10.47 for men and 11.76 for women, while NAIA's 2025-26 B standards were 10.42 and 11.85. Depth differs by conference more than by association.
What 100m time do you need to run in college?
Somewhere in the 10.8 to 11.5 range for men and 12.2 to 13.0 for women will get you onto a D3, NAIA, or JUCO roster. D1 recruiting generally starts under 10.9 for men and under 12.4 for women.
Can a JUCO sprinter transfer to D1?
Regularly. NJCAA DI used a 10.48 and 11.92 cut in 2025, which is inside the range D1 programs recruit from. Two-year programs are a common route for athletes whose high school marks arrived late.
