[01]Average 100m Time for an 18-Year-Old

Reading the numbers at 18

Two populations wearing the same age

A high school senior is compared to the other seniors in a classification. A college freshman is compared to a roster that includes 22-year-olds on their fifth training year. Nobody splits published data this way, which is why 18-year-old averages online contradict each other so badly. Work out which field you are actually in before you use any number on this page. The year before, when everyone in the race is still in high school, is covered in the 17-year-old ladder.

College marks are published, high school ones are not

NCAA D2 set a 2025 provisional at 10.47 for men and 11.76 for women. NAIA used 10.42 and 11.85 for 2025-26. NJCAA Division I used 10.48 and 11.92. Those are real, dated, lookup-able figures. No association publishes a median high school senior time, so every varsity band here is an estimate. Division detail sits in college 100m times by division. What programs actually reply to, as opposed to what they publish, is in D1 track recruiting standards.

Your senior mark got you in, your first college season keeps you

Most programs re-sort the roster off the first indoor season, and an athlete who arrived at 10.9 can be behind a walk-on by February. That gap usually closes with a real training year and strength work rather than more speed sessions. The route in without a scholarship is covered in how to walk on to a college track team.

The crossover year

Know which gap you are actually closing

Moving from a high school field to a college one changes what your race has to look like, not just how fast it is. Film one 100m from the side, upload it, and AI breaks the run into phases and shows where you diverge from sprinters already competing at the level you are heading to.

The college standard rows are published and dated. The high school and roster-range rows are estimates, because no association publishes a median. All marks assume wind-legal, fully automatic timing.

College standards get recalculated every year, so always carry the year with the mark. Roster ranges and all high school rows are editorial estimates; no governing body publishes a roster average or a senior-year median.

Average 100m Time for an 18-Year-Old FAQ

Common questions athletes and coaches ask about this topic.

What is a good 100m time for an 18-year-old?
For a high school senior boy, under 11.2 is good and under 10.9 is recruitable. For a senior girl, under 12.7 is good and under 12.3 is recruitable. If you are already a college freshman, the bar moves: D2's 2025 provisional was 10.47 and 11.76.
What is the average 100m time for an 18-year-old boy?
Roughly 11.2 to 12.0 for a high school varsity senior, which is an estimate rather than a published median. On a college roster the same age sits closer to 10.5 to 11.4 in D1, because the field is selected rather than general.
Is 11.5 seconds good for an 18-year-old?
For a boy it is a workable varsity senior time and around the bottom of a D3 or NAIA roster range. For a girl, 11.5 would be a national-class mark, inside the range that scores at NCAA D1 conference meets.
Can you still get recruited at 18?
Yes, though the options narrow. Late senior marks often land after D1 rosters are set, which is why JUCO and NAIA programs pick up so many athletes in spring. NJCAA Division I used a 10.48 and 11.92 cut in 2025, which is inside the range D1 programs later transfer from.
