NCAA men: 16 lb across all three divisions
The NCAA rules book sets the men's shot at a 7.26 kg minimum for Division I, Division II, and Division III, indoors and outdoors, the same figure in both the indoor and outdoor equipment rules. The NAIA rulebook adopts NCAA track and field rules outright and lists no exception for the shot, so NAIA men throw the same implement. NJCAA competition is reported at the same weight by equipment suppliers and meet officials, though the NJCAA handbook itself was not available to check directly. There is no lighter freshman implement anywhere in American college track, and that is the part that catches incoming throwers off guard. The high school implement it replaces is specified in high school shot put weight. Where that 7.26 kg ball travels for the next thirty years is charted in men's shot put weight.
