Weeks 1-2: stance, winds, safety
Learn the stance (back to the throwing sector, feet shoulder-width apart), the two-wind rhythm, and ring-safety basics. No turns yet. Hundreds of winds at this stage.
First-time hammer throwers learn in the same order: safety, winds, one turn, two turns, full throw. The progression is mechanical, not glamorous, but it is the only way to develop a legal release. This page covers the first 6 weeks. Pair with the hammer throw technique and drills guides for the long-term roadmap.

Add one turn from the static wind position. Heel-toe pivot, hammer at the low point in front. Volume comes from drills, not full throws.
Stack a second turn. Begin standing throws from a 2-foot stance to learn the release. By week 6, most beginners can throw a legal full throw with 2-3 turns.
Beginner hammer changes fast. Film a throw in week 1, then again in week 6. AI form check shows the side-by-side and tells you which technique pieces locked in.
