Boys 12 lb, girls 4 kg, and only one of those carries forward
NFHS Rule 6-10-2 sets a 5.443 kg minimum for boys and 4.0 kg for girls. A girl throws the Olympic implement from ninth grade, so her freshman mark and her senior mark and her college mark all sit on one scale. A boy's do not, because college moves him to 16 lb. The full spec is in high school shot put weight. From that point on he holds one implement for the rest of his career, charted in men's shot put weight.
