Speed is the floor
The fastest jumper in a meet usually wins. Most HS state-qualifying long jumpers run sub-11.5 100m (boys) or sub-13.0 (girls). Distance follows speed before it follows technique.
Long jump distance is mostly horizontal speed at takeoff, with takeoff angle and landing technique adding inches. Below: real benchmarks by age and level, and the levers that close the gap. Use them honestly.

A foul costs the entire jump. Athletes with consistent takeoff points jump 6-12 inches farther on average than those who scrub. Speed alone won't fix a scrubbing approach.
Active landings (knees-tuck-extend) add 6-12 inches over passive feet-first landings. Most varsity jumpers leave this distance on the table.
