110m hurdles (men): 42 inches. 100m hurdles (women): 33 inches. Both events use 10 barriers, the same finish line. Distance to first barrier and spacing differ. Because the women's layout never changes after middle school, the 100m hurdle marks for high school girls compare directly to college and elite results.
Both 36 inches for men, 30 inches for women. The lower height matches the longer race. 10 barriers, 35m apart, first barrier 45m from the start. American high schools use the same barriers over a shorter race, a difference unpacked in 300m hurdles against the 400.
Youth 11-12 hurdlers (both boys and girls) run the 80m hurdles at 30 inches. Boys step up to 39-inch hurdles for the 110m hurdles at the high school level; there is no 42-inch high school division. 42 inches is the open men's / NCAA height. Girls run 30-inch hurdles at the youth level and 33-inch for the 100m hurdles in HS and beyond. Three inches is worth far more than it sounds, as the 110m hurdle benchmarks by grade show.
