Standard introductory footwork drill. Step into the back of the ring, plant the right foot (for right-handers), rotate around the left leg. Builds the rotational pattern without arm work.
Discus footwork is the foundation of the throw. Get it wrong, and the upper body can't catch up. Below: the footwork drills that work without an implement, including the South African drill and half-spin patterns. All drillable on grass or a chalked circle.

Half-spin patterns isolated, no full throw. Focus on the transition from back of ring to power position. 10 reps per session.
Static power position holds, 5-10 seconds, focus on weight distribution and foot pressure. Cheap, no equipment, fixes the most common footwork errors.
Footwork shows up on the ring as power-position consistency. Film a throw with a real discus when you can. AI grades foot placement and rotation timing. If the home drills are working, the power position lands the same every rep.
