4x100 exchange zone: 30 meters, blind pass
Since the 2018 rule change removed the separate 10-meter acceleration zone, the World Athletics and NCAA 4x100 exchange zone is 30 meters total, and the baton must physically pass from hand to hand somewhere inside that window. Runners use a go-mark, a spot on the track where the outgoing runner starts sprinting based on the incoming runner's speed, so the pass happens at matched velocity rather than a standing handoff, and re-measuring that mark every meet is the single most valuable thing a 4x100 team can do.
